We are honored to have one of the most remarkable soul bands performing as this year’s Sunday headliner. Sharon Jones and her Dap-Kings have been at it for 20 years, but their sound captures the essence of funk/soul at its height in the 60s and 70s. You’ve heard their music in many advertisements and soundtracks (they played the cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Uptight (Everything’s Alright)” for a Chase Manhattan Bank commercial) and were the backing band on Amy Winehouse’s first U.S. tour, providing extensive contributions to her album, Back to Black. They’ve performed with many artists, including a recent tour with the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Hall & Oates and Trombone Shorty (wow!) and just a year ago produced their Grammy-nominated album Give the People What They Want.
Get ready to be in your happy place. With their sharp, danceable funk grooves, and those sweet soul hooks that stay in our heads for days on end, they know what we want. When it comes to Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, we need nothing more. 🙂
