We are so excited that award-winning bluesman Curtis Salgado will be returning to the Mammoth stage. The industrious R&B vocalist/harmonicist/songwriter is known for his high-intensity performances and his repertoire, based on his extensive knowledge of soul, blues and R&B music. He has recorded nine solo albums, won numerous Blues Music Awards (BMAs), and all this amid beating liver and lung cancer. It’s no surprise he is a one-of-a-kind-talent, and a true musical giant.
His latest Alligator Records release, The Beautiful Lowdown, is a major step forward for Salgado. A first for his career, Salgado wrote, co-wrote and co-produced the entire album himself, and contributed to the horn arrangements and background vocal parts. Delivered with the vocal power and passion of a musical master, Salgado says that on this album, he worked his tail off and let the songs lead his way. Salgado explains, “During a recent show, I turned to my guitarist and said, ‘Play something lowdown. But make it beautiful.’ Then I thought, ‘Keep that.’” Yep, we agree. That dynamic soul, swaying blues balladry, and funky grooves are the Curtis Salgado we can’t wait to hear in Mammoth.
